Georgia-Pacific and KBX Logistics have used smart software to efficiently plan routes, minimizing the miles spent driving with an empty trailer, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the business. The insights generated by using data capacity and processing power has allowed Georgia-Pacific and KBX to cut 4 million unnecessary non-revenue miles for its 2,300 contracted drivers – saving those 615,000 gallons of diesel. Another initiative to eliminate engine idling at Georgia-Pacific facilities also saved an extra 418,000 gallons of fuel between 2018 and 2019. That has prevented an additional more than 4,200 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation (NYSE: KS) recently released its 2014 sustainability report, which continues to demonstrate the company's progress towards meeting its 2020 sustainability goals. The goals were developed based on the company's commitment to social responsibility and extend well beyond applicable laws and regulations mandated by federal, state and local government entities.
The report conforms to a voluntary standard defined by the Global Reporting Initiative's G4 guidelines, reporting at a core level, and compares the company's performance to the 2010 year as the baseline. Also included in KapStone's report is a materiality assessment review, which engaged stakeholders to evaluate perception of corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
Resolute’s success in reducing our carbon emissions and our ongoing efforts to mitigate climate change have earned the company a 2019 Sustainability Award for best Sustainability Initiative of the Year (project) from the Business Intelligence Group . The organization’s Sustainability Awards annually honor people, teams and organizations who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice or overall mission. This marks the third consecutive year Resolute has been recognized by the Sustainability Awards for our sustainability leadership, vision and strategic initiatives. In 2018, we were awarded a Sustainability Leadership Award in the Organization category, and in 2017, our vice-president of Corporate Communications, Sustainability and Government Affairs, Seth Kursman, was named a Sustainability Hero.
