AF&PA Statement on Administration Regulatory Agenda

American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) President and CEO Donna Harman and Clearwater Paper Corporation President and CEO and AF&PA Board Chair Linda Massman issued the following statement after attending the White House “Cut the Red Tape” event where Vice President Mike Pence outlined the administration’s regulatory agenda.

“We support the administration in its mission to achieve regulatory reform that will allow the paper and wood products industry to innovate, invest, create jobs and compete at home and around the globe,” said Harman. “Our companies account for four percent of U.S. manufacturing GDP, employ 900,000 men and women in rural and urban communities across 45 states and meet a roughly $50 billion annual payroll. When we work together to advance regulatory policies that unleash economic growth, our industry’s future only brightens.”

“Common-sense public policy that ensures regulations do more good than harm will lay a foundation for growing the economy and creating opportunity for all Americans now and in decades to come,” said Massman. “We will look forward to working together with the administration, Congress and stakeholders to achieve those shared goals.”

Total European shipments of graphic papers in February 2018 were down 3.7% vs. February 2017 and are down 2.7% year-to-date. Total European shipments of newsprint in February 2018 were down 9.0% vs. February 2017 and are down 7.1% year-to-date. Total European shipments of sc-magazine in February 2018 were down 5.2% vs. February 2017 and are down 7.8% year-to-date. Total European shipments of coated mechanical reels in February 2018 were UP 2.6% vs. February 2017 and are UP 4.6% year-to-date. Total European shipments of uncoated mechanical (improved & others) in February 2018 were UP 9.9% vs. February 2017 and are UP 12.3% year-to-date. Phoenix Paper completes 5M recommissioning project for Pulp Dryer

In August, Phoenix Paper finished a 5M recommissioning project for our Pulp Dryer. The addition of the Pulp Dryer will allow Phoenix Paper to more efficiently operate the back end of the mill, as well as add a secondary product of baled pulp. The project was complex, upgrading former equipment and raising the roof of the building to accommodate the newer standard size of rail cars. The project was completed on time, on budget, with zero injuries. Congratulations to the entire team and our contractors for a job well done!
