Mondi recognised in three categories of WWF’s Environmental Paper Awards 2016

Mondi Group is very pleased to have been recognised in three categories of WWF’s Environmental Paper Awards in 2016.

Mondi has been recognised as a Sector Category winner in three areas of it’s work:
– In the category “Transparency” Mondi was recognised for publishing the forest, climate and water footprint of 92% of our uncoated fine paper brands.
– In the category “Best Environmental Performance Paper Brands”, 32 of our uncoated fine paper brands received this award, reaching over 80% of achievable scores.
– In the category “Striving for Continual Improvement” our packaging paper brands were recognised for using a proactive approach in assessing the forest, water and climate footprint for internal purposes, using WWF´s Check your Paper Method.

David Hathorn, Chief executive of Mondi Group, said: “These awards confirm the importance of good environmental stewardship and recognise our philosophy of continuous improvement in reducing our environmental footprint. Our participation in WWF’s Environmental Paper Company Index and Check your Paper right from the start made good business sense for us and provides assurance about our products to our customers”.

Mondi and WWF have worked together over many years and in 2014 entered into a three year strategic partnership that focuses on promoting environmental stewardship in the packaging and paper sectors, minimising the impacts of Mondi’s operations on forests, climate and water and sharing information to encourage sustainable practices in the industry.

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement, Inc. (NCASI) announced the launch of the SFI-NCASI Carbon and Water Tools today. Certified throughout: ÖPSO re-imagines sustainable home fragrances

In the development of a truly sustainable product, fragrance producer ÖPSO takes an extra step forward. The company’s home fragrances are entirely PEFC-certified, from the ingredients to the packaging. ÖPSO Marketing Manager Jens Neumann explains what makes the product unique. What will be the next big innovation in ambience? This has been the big question since the beginning of this project in 2017. To help us solve it, we involved consumers and fragrance experts in the development process. The main outcome was that all air fresheners are artificial because they are based on petrol. For more than 18 months we worked together with perfumers, consumers and creatives in the development of this innovation, which we believe will be a breakthrough in the world of air freshening. To this end we have created ÖPSO, the first home fragrances made from natural tree resin.

The forest solution: PEFC, fashion and sustainable supply chains

From the high use of water and pesticides to produce cotton, to the climate impact of manufacturing synthetic fibres, the fashion industry is one of the most resource intensive industries in the world. In response, the fashion industry is increasingly looking to implement sustainability within its supply chains. This week, we are at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit to promote our solution directly to fashion brands and retailers. The solution? Forests, of course! Forests provide materials and fibres for many of the common consumer products we use today. Yarn from cypress, beech and eucalyptus trees can make fibres for clothing.
