$50 million Investment in Georgia-Pacific’s Muskogee Mill

Georgia-Pacific recently announced plans to upgrade areas of its 640-acre Muskogee bath tissue, towel and napkin manufacturing operations. The Muskogee Mill has proposed investments of more than $50 million during the next three years to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of operations, in addition to the investment of a new production line and equipment.

“These investments will help Georgia-Pacific continue our focus on transforming manufacturing equipment and processes that result in better employee safety, environmental performance, reliability and quality,” said Amy Borovich, Muskogee Mill Facility Leader. “We appreciate the support from all of our Muskogee community partners, including the Muskogee City-County Port Authority, City of Muskogee and the City of Muskogee Foundation.”

Georgia-Pacific’s Muskogee Mill employs more than 700 people, making it the largest private employer in the city. The mill makes bath tissue, paper towels and napkins for both retail and away-from-home markets, including such well-known consumer brands as Sparkle®.

Total European shipments of sc-magazine in September 2020 were down 12.1% vs. September 2019 and year-to-date shipments are down 19.1%. Total European shipments of coated mechanical reels in September 2020 were down 23.4% vs. September 2019 and year-to-date shipments are down 27.6%. Total European shipments of uncoated mechanical (improved & others) in September 2020 were down 2.6% vs. September 2019 and year-to-date shipments are down 9.0%. Total European shipments of coated woodfree in September 2020 were down 23.0% vs. September 2019 and year-to-date shipments are down 26.4%. Total European shipments of uncoated woodfree in September 2020 were down 7.1% vs. September 2019 and year-to-date shipments are down 14.9%.

Finland’s first educational activity book teaching preschoolers about recycling is out

UPM, Arla Finland and K Group have teamed up with Oppi&ilo to create Finland’s first educational activity book designed to teach Finland’s 60,000 preschoolers about recycling. The Kierrätyskaverit (“Recycling friends”) activity book aims to make recycling a fun, easy and inspiring part of their daily lives. The 32-page book is distributed free of charge, containing a variety of creative tasks to inspire preschoolers to discover the secrets of recycling and the circular economy. Four tips for teaching children about recycling 1. Explore together: What kind of different packages can you find at home? What kind of recycling instructions are there on the labels? 2. How should you sort your afternoon snack waste? Check the wastebin after you snack and sort the trash correctly. 3. Could you reduce your water consumption? Think together: How much water do you consume – and why? 4. Head out for a trip into nature. What do you see there? Can you find something that does not belong there?
