Despite the popularity of digital platforms, print is still alive and well – and it’s ripe for innovation. Nowhere is that more evident than with production inkjet printing. Offset printing continues to occupy the largest segment in the printing technology space, but production inkjet printing is growing in popularity among book printers, direct mail providers and marketers looking for cost-effective ways to create customized content and/or respond dynamically to consumer demand. “Print buyers are interested in smaller print runs with hundreds or thousands of pieces instead of tens of thousands or more. And they want variable data and customization capabilities so they can run more targeted campaigns and niche promotions,” says Meredith Collins, channel marketing manager for Domtar Paper. “Advancements in production inkjet printing mean you can now do all of that with greater flexibility.”

LSC Communications announced today that its Book Division, the largest book producer in the United States, will now operate as Lakeside Book Company. In addition to book manufacturing, Lakeside provides distribution, sales and marketing services, as well as IP and brand protection technology for book publishers and others requiring premium quality print and distribution-related services. The new name of the Book Division as Lakeside Book Company is rooted in the company’s rich history and marks a renewed commitment to providing best-in-class printing and fulfillment services. Kingery Printing, an Effingham, Ill.-based commercial printer that provides a full suite of prepress, sheetfed and web printing, binding, and distribution services, has announced the acquisition, effective December 1st, of Mattoon, Ill.-based United Graphics, a digital and offset printing company that specializes in the manufacturing of books, catalogs, guides and newsletters. Graphic Arts Advisors (GAA), Mountain Lakes, N.J., a strategic financial advisory and consulting firm devoted exclusively to all sectors of the graphic communications industry, represented Kingery Printing in the acquisition, with GAA Director John Hyde, Esq. serving as lead advisor on the purchase. Under the agreement, United Graphics and its Mattoon facility, will become part of the Kingery Printing organization, which, in addition to its Effingham headquarters and manufacturing facility, also includes a plant in Henry, Ill.
